What is Urinary Urge Incontinence?

The condition of unintentional leaking of urine is called urinary incontinence, which can impact the quality of your daily life. Fortunately, urinary incontinence can be treated, managed, and even reversed in some cases, depending on the severity and the underlying cause(s).

Urinary urge incontinence can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions, which include but are not limited to: bladder stones and urinary tract infections.

What is Overactive Bladder?

Overactive Bladder (OAB) is a grouping of symptoms that include sudden strong urges to urinate, urinary urge incontinence, and simply feeling like "you have to go" several times throughout the day and night. OAB can have a tremendous impact on quality of life, with frequent trips to the bathroom interrupting your day and taking up valuable time. We offer treatment options to help manage and sometimes reverse the symptoms of OAB.

Treatment Options for Urge Urinary Incontinence / Overactive Bladder

  • Medications

There are several prescriptions medications on the market to treat urinary urge incontinence. Medication is the first line of therapy to treat over active bladder.

  • Botox®

Botox® is used for more than to smooth out wrinkles on the face. It is an effective office-based treatment option or urinary urge incontinence and over active bladder. Botox® is injected into the lining of the bladder which allow the bladder to relax. Botox® injections work for anywhere from 3 – 6 months and then will need to be repeated. This procedure is very well tolerated in the office setting.

  • Neuromodulation - InterStim

InterStim™ (neuromodulation) is a small device that is implanted under the skin of the upper buttock. The device sends out low frequency stimulation that relaxes the bladder. This procedure is done under anesthesia as an outpatient surgery.
